Gerania Mountains, a paradise on Earth.
The Gerania Mountains are located at the eastern part of Corinth and reaches the limits of Western Attica. They are steep mountains, known since antiquity, such as Thucydides and Pausanias. Their name comes, in the ancient tradition, the cranes birds (Greek: Gerania) that led Hall to them to survive by the flood of Deucalion. According to Pausanias Gerania was the name of Megara’s overland tip which looked like a crane. The Gerania Mountains have a rich vegetation of pines, oaks, firs and a habitat of 950 species of animals and birds. They are protected by Natura 2000 program of the E.E., and they give us the famous Loutraki Natural Mineral Water.
